Social Responsibility cannot be left to Governments alone: Governor
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that social responsibility cannot be left to governments alone and that citizens and committed organizations have an important role to play in identifying societal needs and addressing them effectively. He was speaking after inaugurating the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Gandhi Bhavan International Trust at Gandhi Bhavan, Pathanapuram, Kollam. The Governor called upon citizens to move beyond personal concerns and work for the larger social good.
The Governor lauded the trust's founders and volunteers for overcoming numerous challenges to build a lasting institution focused on public welfare. He urged society to draw inspiration from such service-oriented efforts and actively contribute to community development. Addressing the gathering, the Governor praised Gandhi Bhavan for its sustained commitment to society, particularly in the fields of healthcare, education, and welfare of the specially-abled. He said the institution's journey over the past 25 years stands as a model of selfless service inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's ideals.
The Governor emphasized the importance of Indian cultural values and appreciated Gandhi Bhavan's initiatives to establish educational institutions rooted in Bharatiya traditions. The celebrations reflected Gandhi Bhavan's enduring mission of compassion, service, and social transformation.
The Governor also presented awards to former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan, Industrialist-poet Shri Sohan Roy for their dedicated service. Swami Subhangananda, Dr. Punalur Somaran and other dignitaries were present at the function.

സാമൂഹിക പ്രതിബദ്ധത സർക്കാരുകളുടെ മാത്രം ഉത്തരവാദിത്വമായി ഒതുങ്ങരുതെന്നും, സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ് അവ ഫലപ്രദമായി പരിഹരിക്കുന്നതിൽ പൗരന്മാർക്കും സന്നദ്ധ സംഘടനകൾക്കും പ്രധാന പങ്ക് വഹിക്കാനുണ്ടെന്നും ഗവർണർ രാജേന്ദ്ര് വിശ്വനാഥ് ആർലേക്കർ പറഞ്ഞു. കൊല്ലം പത്തനാപുരം ഗാന്ധിഭവൻ ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ ട്രസ്റ്റിന്റെ രജത ജൂബിലി ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്ത് സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. നാം ഓരോരുത്തരും വ്യക്തിപരമായ ചിന്തകൾക്ക് അതീതമായി പൊതുസമൂഹത്തിന്റെ നന്മയ്ക്കായി ഉണര്ന്ന് പ്രവർത്തിക്കണമെന്ന് ഗവർണർ ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്തു.
പൊതുസേവനത്തിൽ സമർപ്പിതമായ ഈ സ്ഥാപനത്തെ ഇപ്രകാരം രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിൽ നിരവധി വെല്ലുവിളികൾ അതിജീവിച്ച ട്രസ്റ്റിന്റെ സ്ഥാപകരെയും പ്രവർത്തകരെയും ഗവർണർ അഭിനന്ദിച്ചു. ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള സേവനമൂല്യങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും പ്രചോദനം ഉൾക്കൊണ്ട് സാമൂഹിക വികസനത്തിൽ നാം സജീവമായി പങ്കാളികളാകണമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം ഓര്മ്മിപ്പിച്ചു.
ഗാന്ധിഭവന് സമൂഹത്തോടുള്ള ദീർഘകാല പ്രതിബദ്ധതയിൽ, വിശിഷ്യാ ആരോഗ്യസംരക്ഷണം, വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം, ഭിന്നശേഷിക്കാരുടെ ക്ഷേമം എന്നീ മേഖലകളിലെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളെ ഗവർണർ പ്രത്യേകം പ്രശംസിച്ചു. മഹാത്മാഗാന്ധിയുടെ ആശയങ്ങള്ക്ക് ഊന്നൽ നല്കിക്കൊണ്ട് കഴിഞ്ഞ 25 വർഷങ്ങളിലായി നിസ്വാർത്ഥ സേവനത്തിന്റെ മാതൃകയാണ് ഈ സ്ഥാപനത്തിന്റെ യാത്രയെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.
ഭാരതീയ സാംസ്കാരിക മൂല്യങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാധാന്യം എടുത്തുപറഞ്ഞ ഗവർണർ നമ്മുടെ പാരമ്പര്യങ്ങളിൽ അധിഷ്ഠിതമായ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾ ഉയര്ത്തിക്കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതിനുള്ള ഗാന്ധിഭവന്റെ ശ്രമങ്ങളെ അദ്ദേഹം ശ്ലാഘിച്ചു.
മിസോറം മുൻ ഗവർണർ കുമ്മനം രാജശേഖരൻ, വ്യവസായി-കവി ശ്രീ സോഹൻ റോയി എന്നിവര്ക്ക് സമർപ്പിത സേവനത്തിനുള്ള പുരസ്കാരങ്ങൾ ഗവർണർ സമ്മാനിച്ചു. സ്വാമി ശുഭംഗാനന്ദ, മാനേജിംഗ് ട്രസ്റ്റി ഡോ. പുനലൂർ സോമരാജൻ എന്നിവർ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള പ്രമുഖർ ചടങ്ങിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തു.
