From Attappady to Meet the Governor: "Can You Help Me Meet Vijay?" Asks a Student

Thiruvananthapuram: Tribal students from Attappady visited Lok Bhavan and interacted with Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. The students are part of PROPEL (Programme for the Promotion of Education and Leadership), an initiative implemented by the Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission with the objective of promoting education and leadership among tribal children.

During the interaction, the students shared their learning experiences, the positive changes the programme had brought to their lives, and their aspirations for the future. At the beginning of the meeting, each student introduced themselves. Members of the team then briefed the Governor about the objectives and activities of the PROPEL programme. The students also spoke about their circumstances before joining the programme and how the mentoring, training and guidance they received had transformed their lives.

When the Governor asked, "Is there anything you would like to ask or tell me?", one of the students said that she was a great fan of actor Vijay. She then innocently asked, "Could you help arrange an opportunity for me to meet Vijay?" Her heartfelt request brought smiles and moments of delight to everyone present.

Another student shared that, before joining the PROPEL programme, she did not know how to handle a microphone or speak in front of an audience. "But today, I am able to speak confidently in front of you, the Governor. This is a great achievement and a source of happiness for me," she said. The students noted that the training provided through the programme and the support of their mentors had brought significant changes to their personalities and self-confidence.

The Governor appreciated the students' openness, confidence and enthusiasm. He encouraged them to develop a strong reading habit alongside their studies and presented books to them as gifts. He asked the students to read the books carefully and write to him, sharing their thoughts, experiences and opinions.

The mentors, who have played an important role in the students' academic progress and personality development, also participated in the interaction. They explained the guidance, training and various learning opportunities provided to the students through the programme.

Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission has been working for the holistic development of the tribal communities of Attappady since 2004. Beginning with healthcare, its activities have expanded to education, skill development, livelihood promotion and rural development.

The PROPEL programme was launched in 2020 in academic collaboration with the Vivekananda Learning and Development Foundation. The 18 students currently enrolled in the programme joined when they were studying in Class VI. They receive individual mentoring from senior teachers with distinguished academic and professional backgrounds, along with opportunities to participate in various training and residential mentoring programmes.

All the students in the programme performed exceptionally well in this year's SSLC examinations. Two students secured A+ grades in nine subjects, while the others achieved A+ grades in three to four subjects. All of them have now joined Class XI in schools of their choice.

The visit to Lok Bhavan and the opportunity to interact directly with the Governor proved to be an inspiring and confidence-building experience for the students, who had travelled from Attappady with dreams, aspirations and a deep eagerness to learn.

തിരുവനന്തപുരം: അട്ടപ്പാടിയിലെ വനവാസി വിദ്യാർഥികൾ ലോക്ഭവനിലെത്തി കേരള ഗവർണർ രാജേന്ദ്ര വിശ്വനാഥ ആർലേക്കറുമായി സംവദിച്ചു. വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ-നേതൃത്വ വികസന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെ സ്വാമി വിവേകാനന്ദ മെഡിക്കൽ മിഷൻ നടപ്പാക്കുന്ന പ്രൊപ്പൽ (PROPEL – Programme for the Promotion of Education and Leadership) പദ്ധതിയിലെ വിദ്യാർഥികളാണ് ഗവർണറെ സന്ദർശിച്ചത്.

ലോക്ഭവനിലെത്തിയ വിദ്യാർഥികൾ തങ്ങളുടെ പഠനാനുഭവങ്ങളും ജീവിതത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടായ മാറ്റങ്ങളും ഭാവി സ്വപ്നങ്ങളും ഗവർണറുമായി പങ്കുവച്ചു. കൂടിക്കാഴ്ചയുടെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ വിദ്യാർഥികൾ സ്വയം പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തി. തുടർന്ന് പ്രൊപ്പൽ പദ്ധതിയുടെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളെയും ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളെയും കുറിച്ച് സംഘാംഗങ്ങൾ വിശദീകരിച്ചു. പദ്ധതിയിൽ ചേരുന്നതിനു മുമ്പുള്ള ജീവിതസാഹചര്യങ്ങളും പദ്ധതിയിലൂടെ ലഭിച്ച മാർഗനിർദേശങ്ങളും പരിശീലനങ്ങളും തങ്ങളുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ സൃഷ്ടിച്ച മാറ്റങ്ങളും വിദ്യാർഥികൾ പങ്കുവെച്ചു.

"നിങ്ങൾക്ക് എന്നോട് എന്തെങ്കിലും ചോദിക്കാനോ പറയാനോ ഉണ്ടോ?" എന്ന് ഗവർണർ വിദ്യാർഥികളോട് ചോദിച്ചപ്പോൾ, ഒരു വിദ്യാർഥിനി താൻ ചലച്ചിത്രതാരം വിജയിയുടെ വലിയ ആരാധികയാണെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. "തമിഴ്നാട് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയായ വിജയ്‌യെ എനിക്ക് ഒരിക്കൽ നേരിൽ കാണാൻ അവസരം ഒരുക്കിത്തരാമോ?" എന്നായിരുന്നു അവളുടെ നിഷ്കളങ്കമായ ചോദ്യം. വിദ്യാർഥിനിയുടെ ആഗ്രഹം സദസ്സിൽ സന്തോഷവും കൗതുകവും നിറച്ചു.

പ്രൊപ്പൽ പദ്ധതിയിൽ ചേരുന്നതിനു മുമ്പ് പൊതുവേദിയിൽ മൈക്ക് കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യാനോ ആളുകൾക്കുമുന്നിൽ സംസാരിക്കാനോ തനിക്ക് അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് മറ്റൊരു വിദ്യാർഥിനി പറഞ്ഞു. "പക്ഷേ, ഇന്ന് ഗവർണറായ അങ്ങയുടെ മുന്നിൽ ആത്മവിശ്വാസത്തോടെ സംസാരിക്കാൻ എനിക്ക് കഴിയുന്നു. അത് എനിക്ക് വലിയ നേട്ടവും സന്തോഷവുമാണ്," എന്ന് അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു. പദ്ധതിയിലൂടെ ലഭിച്ച പരിശീലനവും മെന്റർമാരുടെ പിന്തുണയും തങ്ങളുടെ വ്യക്തിത്വത്തിലും ആത്മവിശ്വാസത്തിലും വലിയ മാറ്റം സൃഷ്ടിച്ചതായും വിദ്യാർഥികൾ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

വിദ്യാർഥികളുടെ തുറന്ന മനസ്സോടെയുള്ള സംഭാഷണവും ആത്മവിശ്വാസവും ഗവർണർ അഭിനന്ദിച്ചു. പഠനത്തോടൊപ്പം വായനാശീലവും വളർത്തണമെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം വിദ്യാർഥികളോട് നിർദേശിച്ചു. വിദ്യാർഥികൾക്ക് പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ സമ്മാനമായി നൽകി. പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ വായിക്കണമെന്നും വായനയിലൂടെ ലഭിക്കുന്ന ചിന്തകളും അനുഭവങ്ങളും അഭിപ്രായങ്ങളും കത്തുകളിലൂടെ തന്നെ അറിയിക്കണമെന്നും ഗവർണർ വിദ്യാർഥികളോട് പറഞ്ഞു.

വിദ്യാർഥികളുടെ അക്കാദമിക പുരോഗതിയിലും വ്യക്തിത്വവികസനത്തിലും നിർണായക പങ്കുവഹിക്കുന്ന മെന്റർമാരും കൂടിക്കാഴ്ചയിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തു. വിദ്യാർഥികൾക്ക് ലഭിച്ച മാർഗനിർദേശങ്ങളും പരിശീലനങ്ങളും പദ്ധതിയുടെ വിവിധ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും അവർ വിശദീകരിച്ചു.

അട്ടപ്പാടിയിലെ വനവാസി സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ സമഗ്രവികസനത്തിനായി 2004 മുതൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചുവരുന്ന സ്വാമി വിവേകാനന്ദ മെഡിക്കൽ മിഷൻ ആരോഗ്യസംരക്ഷണ മേഖലയിൽ ആരംഭിച്ച പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ പിന്നീട് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം, നൈപുണ്യ വികസനം, ഉപജീവന മാർഗങ്ങളുടെ പ്രോത്സാഹനം, ഗ്രാമവികസനം തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകളിലേക്കും വ്യാപിപ്പിച്ചു.

വിവേകാനന്ദ ലേണിംഗ് ആൻഡ് ഡെവലപ്‌മെന്റ് ഫൗണ്ടേഷന്റെ അക്കാദമിക സഹകരണത്തോടെ 2020-ലാണ് പ്രൊപ്പൽ പദ്ധതി ആരംഭിച്ചത്. അന്ന് ആറാം ക്ലാസിൽ പഠിച്ചിരുന്ന 18 വനവാസി വിദ്യാർഥികളാണ് പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായത്. മികച്ച അക്കാദമിക-തൊഴിൽ പശ്ചാത്തലമുള്ള മുതിർന്ന അധ്യാപകരുടെ വ്യക്തിഗത മാർഗനിർദേശവും വിവിധ പരിശീലന പരിപാടികളും വിദ്യാർഥികൾക്ക് ലഭിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

ഈ വർഷത്തെ എസ്.എസ്.എൽ.സി. പരീക്ഷയിൽ പദ്ധതിയിലെ എല്ലാ വിദ്യാർഥികളും മികച്ച വിജയം നേടിയിരുന്നു. രണ്ട് വിദ്യാർഥികൾ ഒമ്പത് വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ എ പ്ലസ് ഗ്രേഡ് നേടിയപ്പോൾ, മറ്റുള്ളവരും മൂന്ന് മുതൽ നാല് വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ എ പ്ലസ് ഉൾപ്പെടെ ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ വിജയം കരസ്ഥമാക്കി. നിലവിൽ എല്ലാവരും തങ്ങൾ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട വിദ്യാലയങ്ങളിൽ പ്ലസ് വൺ പഠനം തുടരുകയാണ്.

അട്ടപ്പാടിയിൽ നിന്ന് ലോക്ഭവനിലെത്തി ഗവർണറുമായി നേരിട്ട് സംവദിച്ച അനുഭവം വിദ്യാർഥികൾക്ക് പുതിയ ആത്മവിശ്വാസവും വലിയ പ്രചോദനവും പകർന്നു.
