Kerala carries the torch of national unity lit by Adi Shankara: Governor Om Prakash Mathur
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala, the birthplace of Adi Shankara, continues to carry the torch of national integration, Governor Om Prakash Mathur said here on Saturday.
Inaugurating the Kerala Piravi celebrations organised at Lok Bhavan, the Governor remarked that Adi Shankaracharya's Bharat Parikrama (tour of India) remains the finest example of the country's national integration.
"Born in Kerala, Shankaracharya established four mathas (monasteries) in the four corners of the country, undertaking the journeys on foot during that era. These mathas stand as enduring symbols of the oneness that binds Bharat together," Mr. Mathur said.
He noted that people from North India and other distant regions hold Kerala, the birthplace of Shankaracharya, and its rich traditions in high esteem. Kerala has consistently remained at the forefront of safeguarding the nation's unity and integrity, he added.
Highlighting the State's cultural legacy, the Governor stated that Kerala's distinct heritage and hospitality have contributed significantly to laying the foundation for the concept of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat by harmonising India's vast diversity and cultures.
He added that Kerala played a pivotal role in maintaining national unity even when States were reorganised on a linguistic basis.
Calling upon citizens to work together for the progress and cultural preservation of the State, Mr. Mathur urged everyone to move forward in the spirit of unity advocated by Adi Shankaracharya.
The inaugural ceremony was followed by a line-up of traditional cultural performances showcasing the heritage of Kerala.
